How pop art influences fashion

I am a big fan of Pop Art.  There's something about the bold designs, bright colours and the influence from popular culture that really appeals to me.  Whether it's the comic book designs, hollywood icons, or big brand advertising and marketing inspiration they all seem to resonate with me.

What I also love is how an art movement that started in the 1950s is still as relevant today as it was when it started.  I can spend hours on pinterest trawling through images and have even started a board dedicated to it.

It got me thinking just how much have iconic artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein influenced the fashion world... and this is what I found.

The Souper Dress

One of Andy Warhol's most famous pieces of artwork was Campbell's Soup Cans so imagine my excitement when I came across this 1960s dress penned the 'Souper Dress'.

Christian Dior Fall 2013

More recently Christian Dior took inspiration from Warhol for their Fall 2013 season which included bags and dresses featuring the artists paintings of fashion and shoes.

Charlotte Olympia

Hello! How gorgeous are these shoes? Created by cult following shoe designer Charlotte Olympia, these beauties were inspired by Lichtenstein's work but alas only 100 pairs were made! If anyone has a size 6 please give me a call...

Yayoi Kusama

You might not know the name but you'll likely to recognise the striking polka dots.  Louis Vuitton catapulted this japanese artist into the limelight back in 2012 in a special collaboration.

Keith Haring

His trademark cartoon style characters need little introduction and appear on all kinds of products, the fashion world no exception. Vivienne Westwood is a big fan and Tommy Hilfiger has used the designs on a vast range of footwear including wellies, pumps and heels.

And what about Shopafrolics?

OK, so we're no Dior, Vivienne Westwood or Louis Vouitton but we do have some accessories in stock which are Pop Art inspired. Why not pop over to the shop and see if anything takes your fancy!
